Nebraska Football loses a linebacker.

On Sunday, Nebraska football suffered a loss in the 2021 class. Three-star linebacker Will Schweitzer decommitted from the program.

He is the 35th overall outside linebacker in his class, and the 48th overall player in his class from the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Now, one school to watch for in his recruitment is Notre Dame. There have been a couple of 247Sports Crystal Balls trending in his direction. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to South Bend.

This is a difficult loss for Nebraska. If there is a positive to this, it is that they lost an outside linebacker. They are very deep at the position. However, I liked what Schweitzer brought to the table. He was very athletic, and didn’t look like he played the linebacker position. He was more of a hybrid linebacker, in the sense that he could cover and make plays. He almost reminded me of a safety in some aspects.

This brings the 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class down to 13 commitments. Even with this loss, it is still not a bad class. If there was one position where Nebraska could suffer a loss, it was at linebacker. Who knows, maybe some other linebacker will come in and fill the gap.

The class currently ranks 43rd overall nationally and ninth overall in the Big Ten per the 247 sports team rankings. I like what this class stands, and I am interested to see who they will add to it. There is a solid base there, and that’s all that counts. I would have been more worried if the class was in shambles.

I would have liked if Schweitzer stayed with Nebraska football. Nevertheless, I certainly wish him the best of luck, and wish him well. Hopefully he can find a situation that works for him.

As for Nebraska, I can definitely see a piece coming in. They have seem to do well at replacing lost talent, and I wouldn’t put it past Scott Frost and the rest of the Nebraska football coaching staff to do it again.
