Nebraska football is in the thick of things for a top wideout.

There was some big recruiting news for Nebraska football on Tuesday as a Georgia prospect got his third “high” 247Sports Crystal Ball for Nebraska. Athlete Marques Buford received the distinction on Tuesday as Nebraska continues to try and load up its 2021 recruiting class.

Buford is the top overall player on the prep circuit. He went to St. Thomas More Prep. It’s worth noting that Alante Brown also went to a prep school. Nebraska has seemingly been connected to talent in the prep ranks.

Currently, Buford is a three-star recruit. He also has offers from the likes of California, Iowa State, Ole Miss, and Pittsburgh. He has 22 offers in total. Most recently, he was offered by Temple on June 12.

What could he bring to Nebraska football? Measuring in at exactly six feet, 190 pounds, he is not the tallest receiver on the field. However, he has tremendous leaping ability and athleticism. In particular, he has speed and shiftiness. That is most noticeable after the catch.

He would give Nebraska a tremendous playmaking receiver that would be able to make things happen with the ball in his hands. In the Big Ten, you need receivers that can stretch the field, and make defensive backs afraid. Every Saturday, it seems like the conference has some wild games. Nebraska has certainly been a part of those,

Nebraska has a talented set of quarterbacks to rely on for the future. It would be fun to see Buford work with them, especially given his precise route-running and ability to turn up field quickly.

As has been talked about before, Nebraska is putting together an extremely strong 2021 recruiting class. Currently, the class itself ranks 43rd overall nationally, and 10th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Nevertheless, this class is extremely talented and many of the commitments in this class should find the field very soon.

The addition of Buford would give Nebraska football another weapon. They could put him at several different positions. His speed would allow him to play either the running back or slot wide receiver positions at a high level.

Nebraska has seemed to have done well utilizing these type of multi-tool players. It would be fun to see how they would fit Buford in this offense. Nebraska has seemed to have been on fire the past couple of weeks in recruiting. This would just be another big get for the coaching staff.
