Nebraska football made the top group for a talented Texas running back.

As Nebraska football continues to make waves in recruiting, they also continue to make final lists. Friday, the program made the top group for four-star running back Cam’ron Valdez.

Valdez is the 17th overall running back in the 2021 class, and the 50th overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Also in his group of seven were Texas Tech, Purdue, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Utah, and Arizona State.

On the Nebraska side of things, he is being recruited by running backs coach Ryan Held.

He had a tremendously successful high school career and he was able to establish his dominance. He has rushed for over 2,700 yards and 45 touchdowns in three years of high school football. He has explosiveness, and he has speed.

In terms of the running back position itself for Nebraska football, they have recruited well over the past couple of classes. When you look at the depth chart, players like Sevion Morrison and Marvin Scott III are poised to be the running backs of the future for Nebraska.

If they can get another running back with a ton of pedigree that can take over once those two leave, so be it. It would be great for Nebraska to have that luxury of knowing they could have players either leave for the draft or graduate, and not lose much production.

Valdez certainly fits that mold. When you look at what he can do with the football, it’s truly impressive. He is a very elusive running back, who runs bigger than his size. At five-foot-10, 187 pounds, he is definitely on the smaller side for a running back. However, he uses his physicality and his speed to burst through holes. What I liked most when watching his film was the fact that he didn’t hesitate. His speed through the hole was extremely impressive, and once he got into the open field, he was difficult to bring down.

Currently, the 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 41st overall nationally and 10th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. I’d expect those numbers to go up in the future.

Hopefully, Nebraska will be able to land Valdez. They have managed to get some talented running backs to come to Lincoln. Having a guy like Valdez who can be a playmaker at the position would just be another weapon for the future. The program has focused on landing good offensive talent, and a commitment from the running back would just be another notch in the belt of the Nebraska football coaching staff.
