The media expects the Nebraska football quarterback to do big things.

Can Nebraska football quarterback Adrian Martinez turn things around? At least one CBSSports.com writer thinks so. David Cobb had Adrian Martinez as his pick for the star that will have the biggest bounce back in 2020.

Martinez joins a list that includes Florida State quarterback James Blackmon, Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore, Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses , and Miami quarterback D’Eriq King.

First off, I am excited that Martinez made this list. Usually, Nebraska football doesn’t tend to make national lists. Not only that, Martinez made the list for a positive thing. After what was a difficult 2019 season, Martinez certainly has an opportunity to bounce back. With Nebraska having to face a slew of big-time opponents, he will be tested against the best of the best. This season will truly show what Martinez is capable of, against stiff competition.

When Martinez is at his best, he can take over a game. We saw him do so in certain instances last year. The problem was, he could never put it together throughout the entire season. It was frustrating to watch, just because we all knew his full potential. Last year, it seemed as though he tended to overthink things. Now in his third year, he has to put the sophomore slump behind him and prove to the college football world that he can get back to what he was his freshman year.

Here is an excerpt from what Cobb had to say regarding the Nebraska football junior.

"Ultimately, the frustrations of 2019 should be behind him now, and with new offensive coordinator Matt Lubick arriving to provide the entire unit with a fresh start, Martinez is poised for a significant resurgence. He is too talented, and there is too much returning talent on this Nebraska team for the Cornhuskers to languish offensively again."

I agree with Cobb here. Nebraska football is loaded with talent. I have been singing Matt Lubick’s praises all offseason. I truly think both he and Martinez can right the ship. The combination of the talent the roster has and Lubick should be enough to pull Martinez out of his slump. I am truly optimistic for what this team can do.

Of course, many things do not go according to plan. Martinez found that out the hard way last year. Hopefully, he can put everything behind him and play well in 2020. A good season for both him and the program would go a long way for both parties.
