Nebraska Football has young quarterbacks to lead the way for the future.

As the 2020 season gets underway for Nebraska football, Scott Frost has confidence in what his younger quarterbacks can bring to the table.

In a Zoom call with reporters on Tuesday, Frost expressed confidence in the group that he had. We know what Martinez can bring to the table. Now, we have to see what Luke McCaffrey and Logan Smothers can bring to the table as well.

Right now, I feel like McCaffrey is still a little raw. He showed tremendous skill last season in the opportunities that he was given. As a freshman, Smothers is expected to be raw. Nevertheless, he has a ton of potential for the future, and for him, the learning process starts now.

Ideally, McCaffrey and Smothers are going to make up the future at the position for Nebraska football. This is a big year for Smothers, as he can begin to learn the ins and outs of the Nebraska football playbook. My guess is that he has already begun to do that. When you look at the raw talent that these two quarterbacks possess, it’s very evident that the skill is there. They are both game changers who can make plays in and out of the pocket. In today’s football world, that is certainly key.

If anything, Smothers is going to be hurt by the lack of spring football practices. In what was an unusual spring for all involved, now he is going to have to make up for it somehow. Personally, I don’t think it will affect him too much. I’m more interested to see what he can do in game situations as well as how he adjusts in the quarterback room.  He’s going to have to do a lot of learning on the fly, but his skills should make up for that.

If anything, I believe that these two can lead Nebraska towards a bright future. I don’t necessarily have any worries about them either. With the way McCaffrey’s preparation is, as well as the room in which Smothers has to learn from, both of the quarterback should be okay.

When you have a starting quarterback who has started as much as Martinez has, you need to have a backup plan. Nebraska football has that, and they have a solid plan. In my estimation, they are not going to have as big a drop-off as some may expect. There may be some growing pains . However, the future is bright at the position.
