Nebraska football has talent on the line that can make an impact.

Tuesday, we got more of an insight into how Nebraska football will use their personnel. Scott Frost talked about the quarterback room, and he also talked about how he is going to shuffle around the line, at least for practices. In that respect,  we may see some personnel lining up at different places come the fall.

Matt Farniok is expected to begin practices at right guard. Initially, he was supposed to be at the left guard spot. Brenden Jaimes will stay at left tackle, and that is the most ideal spot for him. As Brian Christopherson of 247Sports notes, this could offer an opportunity for somebody to step up.

In his piece, Christopherson notes that Bryce Benhart may be able to make a move for the right tackle position. I like the sound of that personally. Last year, Nebraska football spent time getting their offensive line assets acclimated. Now, it’s time to see what they can do. It’s time to see if the recruiting talents of Frost and his staff are going to pay off.

You have heard me rave about the 2020 class multiple times, Benhart is certainly part of that.

As a recruit, he was the 13th overall offensive tackle in his class, and the second overall player in his class from the state of Minnesota per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Measuring in at six-foot-nine, 287 pounds, Benhart will certainly add size to the line.

Personally, I like the trio of Farniok, Jaimes, and Benhart. That right there makes up a solid group on the line. Although Benhart will not have the experience that Farniok and Jaimes will, that still is a much better group heading into 2020 than any group Nebraska football had last season.

Jaimes has experience moving around on the line. I like the idea that Frost has of moving the veterans around. They will know how to handle a position they are not accustomed to a little bit better than say Benhart. That is certainly not a knock on him.

Frost has it right when talking about tinkering with the line. This gives the redshirt freshman a chance to make an impact while keeping the veteran assets on the field. That’s the smart way to go about things and it gives us a chance to see what a guy like Benhart can do. I will be interested to see if Benhart can crack the starting lineup and I believe he has a right future.
