Farmer is part of a loaded 2020 class for Nebraska football.

When you take a look at the safety position for Nebraska football, there is certainly talent there. Led by upperclassman Deontai Williams, Nebraska figures to be in good shape at the position. That position is just one of the many in which the program has depth.

One player that could have a big year at the position is Myles Farmer. in rankings done in February by Brandon Cavanaugh of Athlon.com, he picked Farmer as his “sleeper” pick at the position.

As some of you may recall, Williams suffered injuries last season. Now, it will be up to him to regain his status as the top safety in the program . Nevertheless, I would view this as a positive for Nebraska. Both players are extremely talented. It’s going to be a matter of who gets it done most efficiently.

For what it’s worth, Farmer did see some action last season. He made his debut against Northern Illinois, playing both on the special teams unit and at the safety position. He also recorded his first career tackle on kickoff coverage against Ohio State. Getting in action against the likes of Wisconsin and Iowa, he certainly got a taste of big-time college football.

According to his biography on the official Nebraska football website, he was a member of Nebraska’s travel squad for four of the huskers five road games last season. That certainly holds some merit to it. The fact that he was able to travel with the team as well as be a part of the gain a preparation can only benefit him moving forward. Now, he could have an opportunity at making an impact at safety.

The pedigree is certainly there. At Westlake High School, he was named to the All-Region First Team as a senior and earned Second-Team honors as a junior. Coming to Nebraska as a three-star prospect, this is a situation where a star ranking is not indicative of his overall talent. He should fit nicely in this Nebraska football defense.

I don’t expect Farmer to be a starter this season by any means. However, I do think he will be a solid depth piece for the future. Especially if Williams continues to suffer injury problems, Farmer could see playing time sooner rather than later. He is somebody that I would expect to make a major impact in the coming years. 2020 is going to be about getting his feet wet.

farmer is often forgot about when you talk about the Nebraska football defensive backfield. However, he is should be able to fit just fine in Lincoln.
