Nebraska Football will be without him the rest of the way.

The Nebraska Football secondary is going to look a little bit different come Saturday against Illinois. Safety Deontai Williams is out indefinitely according to multiple media reports.

Williams was removed from the depth chart on Monday, and Cam Taylor-Britt is expected to take his place. Taylor-Britt has played well so far over the course of the past couple of games. It’s certainly a good thing that Nebraska Football has enough depth to where there won’t be a huge drop in production.

Williams had two tackles this season. Although the statistics may not have shown it, Williams was doing a nice job of flying around and being active over the course of the game. Now, he will take center stage at a position that has proven to be one of production so far this season.

Now is Taylor-Britt’s time to shine. He has played well so far this season. Playing in two games, he has recorded 10 tackles and forced three fumbles. He has shown that he is not afraid to come up and make plays, and that he also seems to have a firm grasp of the defensive playbook.

With Williams being a junior, this is certainly a huge hit in terms of experience on a defense which features a good mix of younger and older players. However, the majority of them have looked like rookies as of late, especially on Saturday. They just could not seem to get the job done. Now against  Northern Illinois, the defense will undoubtedly have to have all hands on deck.

It will be interesting to see how Nebraska Football replaces Williams. He is undoubtedly going to be a tough player to replace. However, Nebraska needs to have a “next man up” type of mentality. These next couple of games are going to determine which direction the season goes in. Hopefully, Nebraska  can regain some of that momentum they had following their win over South Alabama. They certainly need to play well and salvage this season before it’s too late.
