Reed could be a staple for Nebraska Football for years to come.

Malik Reed is set to visit Nebraska Football next week as the 2020 three-star outside linebacker continues to weigh his options. A native of Chandler, Arizona he is certainly a talented player.

Reed is ranked the 42nd overall outside linebacker in his class, and the 15th overall player in the state of Arizona per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has him going to UCLA. For what it’s worth, he visited the program on May 18.

Nevertheless, Nebraska Football is still very much on his radar. Mario Verduzco and Barrett Rudd are recruiting him to Lincoln. Verduzco has been magic in terms of recruiting as he has recruited the likes of Adrian Martinez and Luke McCaffrey to the program.

What would he be able to bring to Nebraska Football? He is a very solid tackler. As a junior last year, he played in 10 games. In those games, he tallied 12 solo tackles and 30 assisted tackles. Totaling 42 tackles in all, he also averaged 20.5 tackles for a loss. He proved to be an effective pass rusher. He tallied 8.5 sacks and nine hurries. If he were to play for Nebraska, I could see him being a better fit as a pure pass rusher.

The program certainly needs to stock up on defense. With so many upperclassman leading the way in 2019, they need to start looking towards the future. This is visit for Reed is rather big for the program, because he is the type of player that can set the tone for the rest of the summer in terms of recruiting. He has enough skill and talent to be a key piece for Nebraska moving forward. While Blake Gunnersson is a player that could see significant playing time and make an impact, Reed is a player that could see significant playing time and be one of the staples for the defense.

Particularly with the way Nebraska Football values linebackers, he could be a major get for the program. Just look at a player like Mohamed Barry. He has thrived during his time in Nebraska. I feel as though Reed could be that same type of player. He certainly has the skillset to do so. A commitment here would certainly ease the worries of the coaching staff in terms of depth and who they have moving forward

It will be interesting to see what Reed makes of his visit. So far, we have heard nothing but good things from recruits about their visits via Twitter. The culture that Nebraska football is creating is special. Now, we will get a chance to see who wants to be a part of it in the coming years.
