He is scheduled to visit Nebraska Football this weekend.

Nebraska Football is set to have a big weekend. As they host satellite camps on Friday, more players are coming to visit.

Blaise Gunnerson would fit into the visitor category. He is scheduled to come to Lincoln on Saturday. He is a three-star strong side defensive end from Carroll, Iowa. He is the No. 34 strong-side defensive end in his class, and the second overall player in the state of Iowa per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He has a ton of offers, especially from the middle part of the country. In addition to Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas State, and Minnesota have all extended offers his way. Right now the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Iowa State for Gunnerson’s recruitment.

What could he bring to Nebraska Football? He has speed, and as a defensive end, that is a tremendous weapon. He can get by his defender with ease and perhaps the most impressive part of all this is that he doesn’t have to set the edge. He can just use his strength to overpower his man. He would be able to help the Cornhuskers immediately as the defensive line currently is a veteran group. Once the veterans’ graduate, he can step in and play right away.

However, this may all be a pipe dream. Iowa State,  and for that matter Iowa, is close to home. It seems like there is one common theme here, and that is he wants to stay in the Midwest. That could be working in Nebraska Football’s favor, although it appears they will have some work to do. This is all part of the fun of recruiting.

I would be interested to be a fly on the wall during his visit on Saturday. Lately, Nebraska Football has been bringing in many visitors and landing some commitments. There have been some losses, such as Perrion Winfrey for example, but there have also been many commitments. I would be interested to hear what the coaching staff has to say about the direction of the program moving forward.

Hopefully, Gunnerson enjoys his visit to Nebraska. He is a player that could see the field quite a bit over the next couple of years. Now, the recruiting battles start to get interesting. Hopefully, this one lands in Nebraska’s favor. They could certainly use his talent, and he would be another great get for Scott Frost in the coaching staff.
