Mohamed Barry

Mohamed Barry is another player who really didn’t benefit from spring practice. Certainly, he worked hard on the field and continued to develop as a leader. That will be crucial, particularly in his senior year. However, this should be just a warm-up for him as he figures to be a huge part of the defense in 2019. He was here last year, he knows the playbook, and he knows what he’s doing. That was evident by the fact that he played so well last year.

This was a time for the other linebackers to shine to see what Nebraska Football had in terms of depth. Players like Collin Miller and Tyrin Ferguson were under the microscope this spring and they should be able to provide a boost to Barry in the fall. In my estimation, this was a spring to figure out who will provide a boost next to Barry. With the departures of Dedrick Young and Luke Gifford just to name a few, the Cornhuskers need to be able to find replacements for those guys. That of course is easier said than done, as they were tremendous players who provided a sizable boost to the defense.

Barry should be able to be a leader for the Nebraska Football defense and he said as much at the beginning of the spring. All he has to do is make sure he continues his work ethic over the summer as he figures to be a huge part of the defense come the fall. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see him on a couple of preseason award lists and if he is a nominee for several of those by season’s end.
