Adrian Martinez: Timing with the wideouts

This is going to be a big one for me on Saturday. Will quarterback Adrian Martinez be able to have proper timing with his wideouts? As noted Wednesday, two of the wideouts on his roster are Kade Warner and Jamie Nance. Both of those names are relatively young, and they figured to be a huge part of the future of Nebraska Football. Warner especially could carve a role for himself this year. We may only see a little bit of Martinez on Saturday, which is something you would expect in a spring game.

Granted, Martinez and the mentioned receivers probably haven’t worked a lot on routes yet during spring ball. However, they probably have done some things that have focused on timing and precision. It will be interesting for me to see how they work on Saturday. This is more or less a simulated game. If Warner and Nance can show they have a good feel for how Martinez throws the football, that will certainly be an encouraging sign for the program.

There are veteran wideouts on the team like for instance Mike Williams who should be familiar with Martinez given his stellar play last year. Jaron Woodyard will be a name to watch as well. He, meaning Woodyard, did not see a ton of action last season either. This will be a good measuring stick for him as well. Woodyard figures to be in the conversation when it comes to the new-look receiving group for Nebraska. Even if Martinez’s timing does not look great on Saturday, this will give them an opportunity to work on it. Working on the timing now will only be able to help both quarterback and receivers come the fall.
