Nebraska Basketball: Takeaways from Fred Hoiberg’s press conference
Hoiberg and Tim Miles are on good terms
The fact that former Nebraska Basketball head coach Tim Miles and Fred Hoiberg had discussions, as the latter alluded to in the first half of the press conference is interesting. As noted in a tweet from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, the pair had a good conversation two days ago.
The fact that he thinks so highly of Miles should sit well with the Nebraska Basketball faithful. No matter what you thought of Miles as a head coach, he was a great guy and I think Hoiberg recognized that from the jump. This is a situation where I could see the two keeping in contact throughout Hoiiberg’s tenure at Nebraska. No matter what, Miles will always be connected to Nebraska and with how long his tenure was, he is certainly going to have some rooting interest in the team.
The fact that the two are so cordial is good for Hoiberg. Miles could potentially give him advice on how to handle certain situations with the team. Am I suggesting that Hoiberg is going to nominate Miles as a special advisor? No, not at all. What I am suggesting is that it is helpful to have a guy who has been in that same position before as a point of contact. Big Ten basketball is some of the toughest in the country and it is not easy to navigate. I’m excited that Hoiberg is up for the challenge and that he appears ready to get the most out of this team.
