Nebraska football finished its first week of spring practice and here is a quick look back as well as a glance at what’s ahead this week for the Huskers.

The first week of spring practice is in the books for Nebraska football as the Huskers were on the practice field last Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Obviously, it was an exciting time for Nebraska football fans. At this point, anything to do with the football team being on the field is exciting and anything to distract fans from the harsh winter is good.

And even though there were no open practice sessions to the media, we certainly learned a lot of interesting tidbits throughout the first few days of practice.

One thing that was promising to me was Adrian Martinez. He was impressive in the way he carried himself and the positive things coaches had to say about him. Luke McCaffrey, the freshman quarterback that enrolled early, also earned praise from coaches and that seems to indicate the backup quarterback position will be much better off in 2019.

Another player every Nebraska football fan wanted to hear about this week was Wan’Dale Robinson, the all-purpose running back/wide receiver that should bring another dynamic element to the Huskers offense.

Head coach Scott Frost indicated that Robinson will spend most of his time playing wide receiver and you could easily see him doing things similar to what Rondale Moore did for Purdue last season.

Having Robinson and JD Spielman split out as wide receivers is going to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. Robinson should also get a few carries a game and the read-option with Martinez and the incoming freshman could be deadly.

On the defensive side of the ball, JoJo Domann took most of his snaps at outside linebacker and there are a bunch of moving parts in the secondary. Cam’Ron Jones has stood out and there is also an intriguing competition going on at inside linebacker between Colin Miller, who is looking to take a step forward as a sophomore, Will Honas and freshman Nick Henrich.

As you can see, there are tons of storylines to follow and this week, we should get more of a glimpse of what’s happening with the Huskers as Wednesday practice will be open to the media for the first 30 minutes.

So make sure you are free or able to ditch off work for half an hour during that time as it will be the best look we have gotten so far of the 2019 Nebraska football team.
