We have heard all through the offseason that help quarterback Adrian Martinez is destined to be a leader. Yes, I know, we have contributed to some of that hype. Heading into his sophomore season he looks to build off an impressive 2018 campaign. He has alluded to the fact that he is ready to go and ready to be a better leader. I certainly give him credit for that.

Frost has had Martinez and some other players in meetings in order to mentor them on how to be strong player leaders. I like the sound of that because it sets a guideline for what the coach is expecting of his players as leaders and it hopefully makes sure that coach and player are on the same page. Ultimately, the coach has the final say on everything of course. Nevertheless, having a player who understands what a coach is expecting of his players is important. That way, he can relay that information to the other players on the field. Communication on both levels is crucial.

It will be interesting to see if he continues to take on a leadership role as the spring progresses. He certainly has the talent to be the leader. It would look even better if he could translate that talent to wins. There has been a ton of hype surrounding Martinez. Now, he will have to live up to it. It may be a tall task, but if there is one player that can do it , it is him.
