Nebraska football has the potential to score big in this scenario.
It appears that the hire of new defensive line coach Tony Tuioti is already paying dividends for Nebraska football. Friday, 2020 four-star defensive end Jamar Sekona was offered by the program. He made the announcement via Twitter.
Sekona is the No. 203 player in his class, the No. 28 defensive tackle and the 19th overall player in his class from the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He currently has many offers on the table with many West Coast schools extending an offer his way. Some of the more notable names include California, Oregon, UCLA, and USC. Arizona and Arizona State have also extended an offer his way. Interestingly enough, Tuioti offered Sekona when the former was at California.

What could Sekona bring to Nebraska football? For one, he could bring his physicality to the program. He is very effective at bullrushing an offensive lineman and can get to the quarterback quickly as a result. He is not the fastest player as he runs a 5.49 40-yard dash, but he can use his 73-inch wingspan to disrupt plays. He is very good at getting in running lanes and even if he doesn’t make the tackle, he is there to make sure the play doesn’t get very far. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 305 pounds, he would serve Nebraska very well as someone who could stop the run.
Given the fact that he hails from Greenbrae, Calif. I could see this as being a tough to get for Nebraska. Especially if he has offers from USC and UCLA in the fold, staying close to home would make sense for him. However, the connection with Tuioti could flip him to the program. Having been on a football team before, when players have a connection with their position coach, that certainly makes the recruiting process easier. Over the course of time, players get to know the coach and coaches get to know the players. It feels like a personal connection. I could see that being something working in Nebraska football’s favor.
Could Tuioti bring Sekona to Lincoln? I would say that Nebraska has as good a chance as anybody. Tuoti has a great track record of recruiting, especially at Michigan. That could definitely work in favor of Nebraska football. If Nebraska were to land Sekona, this undoubtedly would be a big get. Not only that, it would be first significant recruit for Tuoti as a member of the Cornhuskers coaching staff.
