Recruiting could be considered a specialty for new Nebraska Football coach Tony Tuioti.

As rumor swirled about who would be the new defensive line coach for Nebraska football, we finally were able to get an answer on Monday. Per multiple media outlets, former California Golden Bears defensive line coach Tony Tuioti is set to take the job.

Tuioti has a bevy of college football experience under his belt and should be a tremendous asset  to Nebraska football. Before he joined Cal, he was the director of player personnel for the Michigan Wolverines in 2016. While there, he commanded the recruiting department. He hosted several of the top recruits in the country and as a result received commitments. He also developed a satellite camp tour in the summer of 2016 that saw Hawaii and Australia among their destinations.

He was instrumental in helping recruit Michigan’s 2016 football recruiting class. That class  was ranked eighth in the country and second overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. As some of you may recall, that class included defensive tackle Rashan Gary and wideout Devin Bush. That is certainly not a bad class to hang your hat on. We may see the two players mentioned above advancing to the NFL ranks in April’s draft. Both are projected to be selected, with Gary being taken eighth overall by the Detroit Lions in one of the latest mock drafts written on Monday.

This is something that could help Nebraska football tremendously. They have already had success on the recruiting trail, but they could use someone like Tuioti to be able to help out. Especially given the fact that Nebraska football is already on a roll when it comes to recruiting, what have they got to lose? It can only help them. With Tuioti’s experience, it can only help Nebraska to compete with some of the best in the country. They have already showed that they are willing to go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest programs in college football. Now, this could help them seal the deal. He has the credentials  and the pedigree to take the program to the next step.

Combined with the fact that he is known for having aggressive defenses, he should be able to really make an impact to continue to help build the Nebraska football program. This was a very good hire by Nebraska, and it should be able to pay dividends. Particularly in 2020 recruiting, that’s where Tuioti could really leave his mark.
