Nebraska Football should have talent in the backfield for years to come.

This kind of situation only makes sense, and this particular situation could work out very well for Nebraska football in the coming years. Running backs coach has Ryan Held been recruiting players to take over at the running back position and not only are they running backs, they are tremendous athletes. In total, he has gained six commitments from players on the recruiting trail.

The most prominent recruit is athlete Wandale Robinson. A four-star commitment, he should be able to make waves at Nebraska. Whether it will be on the offensive or defensive side of the football is the question. Dedrick Mills and Rahmir Johnson are exclusively running backs, and they should be able to provide a big boost to the backfield. Mills is scheduled to join the program during the summer while Johnson committed to the program in May.

Out of those three, Johnson is the one that’s probably the least talked about. As a high school senior this past season, Johnson rushed the ball hundred 11 times for 1,334 yards and 11 touchdowns. A 95-yard rush was his longest of the season. He seemed to be able to put forth a strong effort every game, averaging 111 yards per contest. In total, he had 1, 474 all-purpose yards.

Once Mills arrives on campus, the possibilities for this position group will be endless. There are three 1,000-yard rushers to be had there, each with their own set of explosive skills and abilities. Held certainly gave himself something to work with, and it will be interesting to see how he contributes to the collegiate development of all three. They each have the potential to be offensive catalysts.

What will be even more interesting is how he balances the playing time for all three running backs. Especially with the lack of depth at the wide receiver position, the running backs may be used even more than normal. Having the stability at the position will be very important. I worry that there may be too much talent at the position.

Whatever the case may be, there are options for the Nebraska football program to be had at running back. Held has done a nice job of building up the backfield for success both right now and in the future. Even if the running backs end up being Mills and Johnson from the 2019 cycle (with Robinson moving to a different position) that puts Nebraska football in a great position. It is perhaps their strongest position/ on the football field and one that could produce tremendous results.

Not only could they produce tremendous results, they could end up becoming one of the best positional units in the Big Ten conference.
