Nebraska Football may have gotten their answer as to when a coveted prospect could join the fold.

Nebraska football has been awaiting the status of one of their prized commitments, and Monday may have finally given us an answer. 2019 running back Dedrick Mills told media that he will not be enrolling with the Nebraska football program this semester. Rather, he will join Nebraska in the summer. Mills told Mike Schaefer of Nebraska247 about his status update.

Mills had a tremendous season for Garden City this past year. He ran the ball for 1358 yards and 19 touchdowns. Garden City went to the NJCAA championship but lost to East Mississippi in a heartbreaker by a 10-9 score.

Obviously, Nebraska football wants to see Mills on the football field. He is a tremendous talent as evidenced by his numbers while playing at Georgia Tech. He ran the ball for 771 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, he ran into some trouble while there. He was dismissed his sophomore season for a violation of team rules.

He looks to start fresh at Nebraska and is slated to be a part of a stacked backfield. Rahmir Johnson and Ronald Thompkins are just some of the names at the running back position and they look to be in good shape there. This could spell trouble for Mills as they do not necessarily need to have him in order to get production out of the running back spot. Obviously, Nebraska would like to have him to add to their running back depth. He would certainly be a great addition.

Obviously, this is not an ideal situation. Mills definitely is missing out on some things by not being at Nebraska this semester. Hopefully, he can get to Nebraska early enough in the summer so that he can have a few weeks to get used to his surroundings and prepare before football season begins.

I understand that he is trying to make the best out of his situation and that something this important may be out of his control in terms of time frame. However because of this, guys like Johnson and Thompkins may be slightly ahead of him coming into camp. Let’s also not forget about Wandale Robinson. Adding him into the equation in the backfield will certainly complicate things for Mills.

At the very least, it sounds like Mills has a resolution in place. That is certainly a good starting point. It appears that he will be with Nebraska football in the near future and hopefully he can catch up rather quickly. This team has the potential to be really special in 2019, and hopefully Mills can be a part of that.
