Despite a big mistake, Martinez has a bright future

There was a lot of things to like about what Nebraska football did Saturday, yet nothing was better than watching Adrian Martinez play the way he did in the Horseshoe. He wasn’t perfect by any means and his fumble in the red zone might have ultimately cost the Huskers a chance to win, yet he was still the team’s best player.

Martinez missed some throws and made a couple of pitches that were questionable, but he threw for 266 yards, ran for 72 and accounted for three touchdowns. Down 36-24, he led a touchdown drive that ended with a scoring pass to JD Spielman.

That got Nebraska within five at 36-31. Martinez and the offense never got the ball back, yet if it had, the outcome may have been different.

Obviously, the Huskers would have much rather won the game than being stuck looking for positive signs in defeat again. But Martinez is a legit star and is easily the Huskers best quarterback since T-Magic. In the next few seasons, it will be fun to see just how good he can be.
