The Nebraska football team might be having a tough start to the reason, but the recruiting efforts are still paying dividends.

The Nebraska football team had a bad Saturday afternoon. Scott Frost and company is having a pretty good Saturday night.

The top remaining in-state target for the Cornhuskers, Chris Hickman has announced his commitment to the Huskers. The tight-end joins Omaha Burke teammate Nick Henrich.

The announcement comes as the team is trying to figure out how to fix a season that has started out 0-2. At the very least, the news makes the future of the Scott Frost era look a little brighter.

Unlike in years past, nabbing the state’s top two players wasn’t a given. Both Henrich and Hickman have been courted by some other big-name programs.

Rated as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports, Hickman is considered the 14th best tight end in the entire 2019 class. In addition to the Huskers, he’s got offers from Wisconsin and Indiana in the Big Ten.

He’s also got offers from LSU, Oregon and Ole Miss. Hickman had talked about the fact that he might wait until after the season to announce where he was going to school. It turns out that he realized he was able to pull the trigger after all.

This commitment is especially welcome news considering the Nebraska football team just lost out on one target this week. Defensive back Tiawan Mullen had been looking as though he might be joining the Cornhuskers. On Wednesday he announced he was headed to Indiana.
