Those following Nebraska recruiting know how important it is that the Huskers get players like Chris Hickman, but is that task doable?

Anyone who wants Nebraska recruiting to not only succeed but thrive, knows that the Cornhuskers simply have to keep the state’s best players here. That’s easier said than done when talking about Omaha Burke prospect Chris Hickman.

Hickman and Burke teammate Nick Henrich are two of the most sought-after in-state prospects in quite some time. Between the two of them, they have over 30 offers.

Worse news for Nebraska football fans is that neither player seems to have the kind of soft spot for the Cornhuskers you would have hoped to hear more about entering the second half of July.

The fact of the matter is that Hickman, like Henrich, seems to be legitimately considering going away to college. Chris recently talked to Rivals about his next move and it appears he knows of two teams he wants to see on an official visit.

“I have been talking to Oregon and LSU about taking one,” Hickman said. “I’m still figuring out the last couple (destinations). The state’s second-ranked player according to 247Sports has said he hasn’t really narrowed down his school choices yet.

That jibes with comments he made last month when he said he might not commit anywhere until after the 2018 high school season is over.

Making things even murkier is the fact Hickman hasn’t even narrowed down which side of the ball he’d prefer to play on. He said that Oregon is looking at him to play linebacker, while most of the other schools, including Nebraska, are viewing him as a tight end.

Hickman hasn’t made any visits, official or unofficial for a little while now. He’s seen what Memorial stadium has to offer. Now it’s all about keeping him away from places like LSU.

If he does take a visit there, or to Oregon, it’s going to be up to the Nebraska recruiting efforts to convince him once and for all that this team is the one he should become a member of.
