Former Nebraska football star Stanley Jean-Baptiste suffers broken arm in final preseason game
Former Nebraska football star Stanley Jean-Baptiste seemed like a shoo-in to make the Baltimore Ravens roster. Then the baddest of bad luck struck.
The life of an NFL player is quite a bit like a roller coaster. Ups and downs are a way of life. For former Nebraska football player Stanley Jean-Baptiste, that roller coaster likely all came in one day.
The former Husker wide receiver and defensive back had been having a great camp with the Baltimore Ravens. It seemed likely he was going to be making the team as a special teams contributor at the very least.
On the final game of the preseason, he broke his arm. Jean-Baptiste probably went from the jubilation of knowing that he was going to make an NFL roster to wondering if he was going to be able to play anywhere in 2018.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Ravens will be evaluating the injury Friday morning and determining whether he will be able to return at all this season. If he is able to make a comeback, he’ll likely be put on the IR or the PUP list.
If it’s determined that he can’t return, it seems more than likely they will outright cut him. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that this kind of up and down is nothing new for the former Cornhusker.
Jean-Baptiste might be one of the more traveled former Huskers in the NFL. In May of 2014, he officially joined the New Orleans Saints. In September of 2015 he was cut.
One day later he was signed to a deal by the Detroit Lions. In December of 2015 he was cut again.
Two days later he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks. A month after that he was cut loose one more time.
May of 2017 Jean-Baptiste was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs only to be cut again in June. A month later he was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he stuck until September.
In October of last season, Stanley Jean-Baptiste was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and added to their practice squad. The former Nebraska football star has managed to make an impression with the club during his time there. Now it’s just a wait and see what happens next.
