While Akron is the perfect opponent to start the year, the Colorado Buffaloes are a tough beat for the second game of the season for the Nebraska football team.

The Buffs went just 5-7 a year ago. That included a 2-7 Pac 12 record. Defense was the main culprit for their problems, ranking 110th in the country in total ‘D’.

In nine games against the Pac 12, Colorado never allowed less than 27 points. The Huskers’ defense was bad, but even they managed to bow up on defense every now and then, holding conference opponents to 24 points or less three times.

Where Colorado should scare Husker fans a bit is on the offensive side of the ball. Led by returning starting quarterback Steven Montez, the Buffaloes’ offense was 48th in the country and 39th through the air.

Don’t let his 18 touchdowns fool you, Montez might be one of the best quarterbacks the Huskers will face this season. He also ran for 338 yards and three touchdowns.

The good news is, almost all of his weapons are gone. Only three starters return on offense for the Buffs and two of those are on the line.

Prediction Time

Montez and the Buffaloes’ offense is going to give the Nebraska football team an early test. The offense had better come to play, but if it does, the Huskers have enough bullets in their gun to improve to 2-0 and win, 38-24.
