The Akron Zips are one of nine bowl teams from 2017 the Nebraska football team will square off with this season. Despite the Zips going all the way to the MAC championship game in 2017, Akron isn’t expected to be the same kind of team in 2018.

It should be pointed out that even if they were the same team as a year ago, that wasn’t a great team. Yes, they won seven games. Only one of those wins was out of conference and that was against Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Akron didn’t have a good offense (122nd in the country) or a good defense (ranked 104th in college football.) While the offense was bad, we can expect it to take a step back considering it returns only four starters.

The good news, for Zips fans is they do return nine starters on the defensive side of the ball. Is that going to be enough to slow down Scott Frost’s new offense? It seems unlikely.

Prediction Time

Nebraska football wins their first game of the Scott Frost era going away. The offense might take a bit to get going but in the end the Huskers open the season 1-0 and win 52-17.
