Former Nebraska recruiting target, commit and signee Elijah Blades has finally gotten to play with the coach he wanted to play with all along.

Back when Elijah Blades was a commit to the Nebraska football team, he was one of the crowning jewels of the class. When it turned out that he had to go the JUCO route, the Nebraska recruiting gurus lost their grip on him.

On Wednesday, Blades officially announced he had found himself a new home with the Oregon Ducks. The commitment to Oregon ends what was quite the long and winding road that appears to have been all about playing for one particular coach.

Back in the day, Blades had committed to the Florida Gators. When he eventually decommitted from the SEC school he chose Arizona as his next program.

Defensive backs coach Donte Williams left the Wildcats soon after Blades switched his commitment. The defensive backs coach joined Mike Riley’s staff as part of a shakeup that was meant to keep the former Oregon State head coach in Lincoln.

Williams was fired with the rest of the staff and Scott Frost was brought in. It appears that Elijah Blades kept his affection for Williams even when he went to Arizona Western.

Coming off his one season in the Junior College ranks, Blades was one of the top-ranked JUCO defensive backs in the country. The Huskers had kept tabs on the recruit, though it appears they never really had a shot this time around.

The Nebraska recruiting efforts have been going pretty well these days, but Oregon might be on another level right at this moment. This is the second former signee the Ducks have reeled in this week.
