Nebraska recruiting: Huskers in Top 3 for Georgia safety Quinton Newsome

Nebraska recruiting in the state of Georgia has likely never been more active than it is under Scott Frost. Whether that pays off or not is still a question.

The Nebraska recruiting focus on Georgia looks to be paying dividends, even if the end results aren’t there quite yet. Earlier this week, Suwanee safety Quinton Newsome announced the Cornhuskers were officially in the Top 3 list of schools he’s considering.

The Huskers under Scott Frost have had a laser-like focus on the state of Georgia since they got here. The state is one Nebraska football teams haven’t mined as much as they probably could have but that appears to be getting rectified under this staff.

Newsome is one of over a dozen Georgia prospects that can boast Husker offers. The Cornhuskers are far from the only team that is hot after Newsome.

The prospect has 20 total offers but on Monday he whittled the list of schools he’s considering to just three. In addition to the Huskers, Georgia and Auburn made the cut.

Those programs are stiff competition for Nebraska when it comes to winning over what is the 70th best player in Georgia, according to 247Sports. When people hear that ranking, there have been some who start to wonder why Nebraska recruiting time isn’t better spent on higher ranked prospects.

While I’m not one who believes “stars don’t matter,” there is something to be said to looking beyond those stars. If Georgia offering wasn’t enough to make you realize Newsome is a talented player, would the fact that Alabama offered make a difference?

It’s got to impress onlookers that when cutting his list to three, the Crimson Tide fell by the wayside. It should be pointed out that the fight is far from over. Tennessee looks like it is throwing elbows and getting back into the action. Newsome is expected to take a visit there very soon.
