Those following Nebraska recruiting know that the Tennessee Volunteers and the Huskers have been going toe-to-toe since Scott Frost arrived.

The Nebraska recruiting train might be heading down the tracks at high speeds, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to hit a bump every now and then. One particular bump came along earlier this week when one of Nebraska football’s top offensive line targets committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Chris Akporoghene was one of those offensive tackles that would have put one heck of a cherry on the 2019 recruiting class had he become a Cornhusker. Akporoghene had named the Huskers among his final five teams.

The offensive tackle from Florida also had the Volunteers on his list. Despite one school being from the Big 10 and the other being from the SEC, the two teams have been going against each other for several recruits since Scott Frost arrived.

It seems as if the fact that the new coaching staff hails from Florida means that they have been going after quite a few SEC recruits. Some of the most pitched battles have seen the Huskers win over some big recruits.

That includes JUCO transfers Greg Bell and Jaron Woodyard. The pair of teammates had been taking official visits together. They has seen both Lincoln and Knoxville and there were some concerns they were going to pick the SEC school over the Cornhuskers.

It turns out that battle turned out great for Frost and company. The battle for Akporoghene didn’t turn out quite as well for those following Nebraska recruiting. The war between the two schools when it comes to recruiting, in general, is far from over.
