Nebraska football: Former star Randy Gregory hints reinstatement might be near
Former Nebraska football star Randy Gregory hinted on Twitter that he might be playing in the NFL again by this coming season.
Former Nebraska football star Randy Gregory is hoping he’s got one more chance at his NFL future. The defensive lineman, with a ton of talent and a rather severe drug abuse problem, sent out a tweet earlier this week that seems to indicate he’s going to get another shot at his football dreams.
Gregory missed all of last season after failing a third drug test in two years. Since being suspended “indefinitely” he’s apparently been doing all the right things to get back into the league.
The NFL.com’s Jane Slater detailed out what he had done so far, ahead of a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell this week. Slater says Gregory has, “spent more than six weeks in intensive drug and alcohol rehabilitation.”

She added that “he’s passed a number of drug tests over the last couple of years. He’s also been able to maintain employment and he wants to rejoin this Cowboys organization, something that he has been incredibly committed to.”
Neither the league, nor Gregory have made any official statement since the former Husker and Goodell met. The player did send out a rather cryptic tweet that hinted he at least thought the appointment went well.
Gregory tweeted out “well my day just got a little better.” Despite many, many people asking to clarify just why it got better, he hasn’t added any new comments on that issue.
Not only would it be good news for Randy Gregory if he was accepted back into the NFL, it would be good for the entire Nebraska football family.

While some have written him off, and I’ll admit I’ve kicked around the idea that might have been for the best at one time, he’s is a former Husker. You can’t call it a family if you aren’t willing to support the members of it even when they’re struggling.
