Thomas Hopkins wasn’t expected to commit to Nebraska football now, or ever.

One of the most interesting developments of the month for the Nebraska football team when it comes to the fourth commit is that Hopkins was a big surprise.

There is talk that even the Cornhusker coaching staff was a bit shocked, at least that the running back pulled the trigger on Friday. Considering the schools that have offered the back, there’s reason to be a bit surprised.

Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Florida State all offered. In the Big Ten, Penn State came calling as well.

Despite all of that, the crystal balls from 247Sports had the three-star running back leaning towards Mississippi State. Florida State was supposedly in second place when talking about the teams that were in the running.

Instead, the Georgia product decided he wanted to play football with the Huskers. When asked what exactly drove him to such a decision, Rivals reports that he loved the relationship he struck up with tight ends coach Sean Beckton and running backs coach Ryan Held.

You might remember that back in the day, Beckton almost didn’t join Frost and the rest of the staff in Lincoln. It appears the recruiting class has already been helped big time by his eventual decision.
