Nebraska football: 3 things to know about newest Husker Ronald Thompkins
The Nebraska football coaching staff has been on fire on the recruiting trail in the month of June. On Friday they got their fourth commit.
It’s hard to remember a month the Nebraska football team has had like Scott Frost and company have had like this June. It’s even more impressive when you think about the fact it’s only half over.
Runningback Ronald Thompkins announced on Friday afternoon he would become the fourth member of the 2019 class to commit to the Cornhuskers this month.
That doesn’t include the two transfer players that are going to be available to play this coming season. In all, the Huskers have added six new players in 15 days this month.
When you look at a coaching staff that knew it needed to reshape the roster and do it quickly, it appears they are working hard to do just that.
Thompkins is a rising star out of the offensive backfield that hails from Georgia. While the coaching staff has talked long and loudly about wanting players from the Peach State this is the first commit from that state this year.
While he is rated as a three-star player, it seems as though he will finish the 2019 recruiting cycle higher. This is the kind of player that is going to be quite a bit better than his star rating indicates, even if he does eventually get that fourth star.
He’s got the speed and the size to be a very good runner in the Big Ten. He’s already 6-0 and weighs in at 195. He’s also got the ability to catch a pass out of the backfield. That’s important in Scott Frost’s offense.
It seems as though the Nebraska football team pulled off a surprise commit on Friday. So what else should you know about Ronald Thompkins?
