The Nebraska football coaching staff has told Bowling Green grad transfer, Cameron Jefferies, they have a spot for him should he choose to take it.

Should Cameron Jefferies manage to pull off his plans to graduate from Bowling Green early, the Nebraska football team could be a big beneficiary.

The cornerback has said he is working this summer to earn enough credits to “graduate” before fall semester kicks off. That would be a full two years earlier than most students in his high school graduating class.

If he does manage to pull off this rather impressive plan, the Cornhuskers have told him they have room on their roster for him. That’s according to the cornerback himself.

According to Jefferies, he’s been in contact with Scott Frost, Erik Chinander and the rest of the staff as one of two teams he might eventually play for.

Jefferies has said Nebraska and Cincinnati are the two teams he’s looking at as far as who he might suit up for in 2018. He would be quite a big pickup for the Cornhuskers if everything comes to fruition.

The plan is for the Bowling Green player to finish his classwork and graduate on August 3. He would then hop on a plane and join either the Huskers’ or Bearcats’ training camp the next day.

This story isn’t just about a young man who desperately wants to transfer and play this year, but also about how the Huskers are turning over every rock in order to find help for their secondary.

Some help came in the form of JUCO transfer Will Jackson III.  The squad had also been pursuing Notre Dame grad transfer Nick Watkins.

When Watkins picked Houston, I assumed the coaches had brought in Jackson as a replacement because they knew they had lost the sweepstakes to land the former Fighting Irish player ahead of his announcement.

It turns out the Nebraska football team would apparently have taken both Jackson and Watkins. They probably wouldn’t have taken all three. For now, the Cornhuskers will have to wait and see whether Cameron Jefferies will pick them over Cincinnati and whether he will be able to pull off his grand grad transfer plans.
