The Nebraska football team is saying goodbye to another player on Monday. Wide receiver Keyan Williams announced he’s pursuing grad transfer options.
Attrition hit the Nebraska football program again on Monday morning. Senior wide receiver Keyan Williams announced he had received his release from the football program and will be pursuing graduate transfer options.
The announcement means that Williams would be able to play right away for whoever he transfers to. Williams transferred from Fresno State a few years back after his father Keith Williams was hired as the wide receivers’ coach.
Injuries and NCAA rules severely limited the action Williams was able to see as a Cornhusker. After sitting out the 2016 season, he made just one catch last year, though it did go for 19 yards.

Williams’ announcement is the third official transfer since the Spring Game ended. Quarterback Patrick O’Brien was the first domino.
Fullback Ben Miles announced a little over a week ago that he would be departing the program. There is also another player that has listed himself as a former Cornhusker but he has yet to make a formal announcement.
After his official announcement, where he managed to throw a little shade (in good fun) at Stanley Morgan, several of Williams’ teammates were quick to get on social media and wish him the best.
Wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey was one of the first Huskers to respond to the news. In his tweet he said that this loss was the one that was hitting him the hardest.

It doesn’t come as much of a shock that other receivers were close with Williams. Andrew Thurman sent out similar sentiments to Lindsey, aimed at Williams and talking about a friendship that goes beyond sports.
Williams also got some love from players from other position groups. Defensive Back Eric Lee’s comments to the departing teammate were short but sweet.

Offensive lineman Jerald Foster got into the act as well. He talked about how Williams was going to be getting nothing but love.
If there is one thing that stands out when comparing the exit of Keyan Williams and other Nebraska football players this spring, it’s that he is the only one that wasn’t a matter of “fit.”
In the end, it’s hardly a shock that he’s leaving, considering he came to Lincoln to play with his father. The fact that it took this long to decide to leave convinced me at least, that he was sticking it out. He’s also someone I was interested to see in this offense.

In a “roster numbers” point of view, William’s leaving further eases a crunch when it comes to being able to add a full recruiting class this year. After Miles’ departure, it was thought the Nebraska football team would lose at least one more player. It’s not clear if Williams’ was that player.
