The Nebraska basketball team, as well as the other participants of the Gavitt Games, found out who they would be matching up against this fall.
The Nebraska basketball team will be facing off against traditional Big East power Seton Hall in this fall’s Gavitt Games. That is according to Jon Rothstein, who cited “sources” for the breaking news.
Rothstein had the rest of the Big Ten-Big East head to head matchups with just a few squads from each conference sitting out this event entirely. Michigan State, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland, and Minnesota are the teams from the Big Ten that won’t be taking part. Providence and Butler are the Big East teams sitting out.
The other matchups include Indiana facing off against Marquette. Creighton is going to go up against Ohio State.
Penn State might have the easiest matchup of all the B1G teams as they get to play Depaul. On the flipside, the marquee matchup for the whole shindig has got to be Michigan vs Villanova.
The Wolverines shocked the college basketball world by getting as far as they did in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova was one of the favorites to win the whole thing.
Rutgers will take on St. Johns, which does seem to be a matchup of two teams that have been struggling to find their way, while both programs have been getting a bit better little by little.
After a couple of down years, Seton Hall is returning to its former status as one of the best programs in college basketball. The Pirates went 22-12 a year ago and finished third in the Big East.

The Nebraska basketball team has never been considered NCAA basketball royalty but they had their best season in decades. If James Palmer Jr, Isaac Copeland and Isaiah Roby all return in 2018, the Cornhuskers are expected to be a very good team. A win over Seton Hall would go a long way in showing that.
