Stanley Morgan has gotten Nebraska football on the NFL map early this year.

Stanley Morgan has been named to NFL.com’s list of 150 “players to watch” this season. The Nebraska football standout clocks in at number 30 on that list.

Both of those facts are good news for a Cornhuskers program that has had a rough go getting players into the NFL the last couple of years. Each of the last two years, only one Husker has been drafted. None have been drafted before the 6th round.

There was a period of time when Morgan was flirting with the idea of trying his luck in the Draft this year. Shortly after head coach Mike Riley was fired, the wide receiver was clearly angry about the situation.

Once Scott Frost was hired, it didn’t take long for Morgan to understand he had a chance to do something very special in this new offense. We’re going to have to wait a bit to see just how special.

Both Morgan and JD Spielman were sidelined during the Huskers’ spring game. That means we’ll have to wait until the fall to see if they put up the kind of eye-popping numbers fans have been dreaming about since Frost was made official.

NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter is buying into what Morgan can do in large part based on what he’s already seen and those expectations of taking the next step in the receiver’s senior year.

"No, Morgan is not the son of the former NFL receiver of the same name. But he has an NFL future, to be sure, as he possesses the speed, size and physicality to win inside and outside at the next level. Morgan will need new Huskers head coach Scott Frost to develop a new quarterback this summer in order to maximize the receiver’s talents in his senior season."

Reuter wrote. Morgan comes in 30th, right behind standout Big Ten running back Jonathan Taylor.

Yes, the Jonathan Taylor that ran over, around and through the Huskers last season for Wisconsin.

If the list of “players to watch” pans out in about the same order in the upcoming NFL Draft (yes I know it likely won’t) it would mean that Stanley Morgan would be the first Nebraska football first-round choice since Prince Amukamara in the 2011 draft.
