Nebraska basketball offers talented Tucson small forward
The Nebraska basketball coaches are back on the recruiting trail these days. The Huskers just offered one of Arizona’s best.
Just days before the Nebraska basketball team announced their new assistant coach, the staff was back on the recruiting trail. Late last week, the Cornhuskers offered a brand new target for the 2019 class in Majok Deng.
Deng is certainly aiming high for Miles and company but perhaps they believe their new assistant Armon Gates can help reel him in. According to 247Sports the 6-5 small forward is a four-star prospect out of Tucson.
Deng is the 147th ranked player in the entire 2019 class and he’s the 37th ranked small forward. He’s also considered the fifth best player in the state of Arizona at any position in basketball.
It’s not how high he is in the recruiting rankings that makes him a hard get. The Huskers landed a similar player in Xavier Johnson before an assistant coach left Lincoln for UCONN.
When Kenya Hunter announced he was taking a different position, the fallout was swift and stunning. Johnson had even signed his official letter of intent.
As a general rule, once that piece of paper is signed, there’s no going back. Johnson decided he did indeed want to go back and take another look at his options.
To their credit, Miles and the athletic department seemed to know there wasn’t going to be anything gained by forcing him to honor that LOI.
Still, there is now a very talented hole in their roster moving forward. They have filled it to some degree with the signing of Robert Morris transfer Dachon Burke.

The Huskers would like to strengthen their roster even more by landing Deng. In order to do that, the Nebraska basketball team would have to beat out schools like Arizona, UCLA and Ohio State among many, many others.
