The Nebraska football team got a brand new commit on Saturday afternoon. What do you need to know about running back Rahmir Johnson.

New Jersey running back Rahmir Johnson committed to the Nebraska football team on Saturday. The running back is not only the latest commit from the 2019 class but arguably the biggest get so far of this cycle.

The first thing to know about the running back is he is the first four-star recruit Scott Frost and company nabbed from the 2019 class. He’s also just the second commit from outside Nebraska.

Johnson is out of New Jersey and he’s among the best the state has to offer. According to 247Sports, he’s the sixth best player in the entire state of New Jersey.

That makes Johnson an especially big get because the state is a rather fertile recruiting ground. It’s long been thought that was one of the benefits of adding Rutgers to the mix when the Big Ten expanded.

The conference got the New York TV market for sure, but they also got some talented players that would be able to play closer to home every now and then even if they left the Garden State.

The commitment also shows that the Cornhuskers are starting to spread their wings a bit. The other out-of-state commit to choose the Huskers was running back Thomas Grayson.

Grayson hails from Oklahoma so he’s almost a neighboring state. New Jersey is far enough away that the Cornhuskers can really look at the commit as bridging the gap to one of the coasts. Now the Nebraska football team just needs to get someone coming from California so they can truly have coast-to-coast coverage when it comes to their 2019 recruiting class.
