Former Nebraska football star Richie Incognito is hanging up his spikes. The offensive lineman has been a pro bowl performer in the NFL for years.

Richie Incognito has had a pretty interesting career. The former Nebraska football star has been one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL while he played.

The biggest problem for him is that he’s had problems staying out of trouble from time to time. It seems as if he might be able to stay out of trouble now as he announced on Tuesday afternoon that he was retiring.

The former Husker, who played towards the end of Frank Solich’s tenure and the beginning of Bo Pelini’s, explained why he was calling it quits to Buffalo Bills writer Vic Carucci.

"“I’m, done. That’s it. It’s been a long career. Went to the doctor. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me. It’s just about doing what’s right. I just want to be in the Hall of Fame.”"

It has indeed been a long NFL career for Incognito, who started out with the St. Louis Rams. In 2009, he began his first, short stay with Buffalo before going to the Miami Dolphins.

More from Cornhuskers in the NFL

It was in Miami that Richie found some real trouble, as he was accused of bullying black teammate Jonathan Martin. It was heavily hinted at by Martin that he was bullied by the former Cornhusker because he was black.

This past season, Incognito found himself in racially tinged trouble again when a Jacksonville Jaguars player said the lineman made racist comments towards him in the middle of a game.

In 2015, after serving a suspension for the bullying, Incognito did move to the Bills where he apparently finished out his career in the last three years. While the former Husker was quite good at his job, it seems unlikely he’s headed to the NFL Hall of Fame.

There is also some talk that the former Nebraska football star is doing this because the Bills are not offering a new deal with as much money as he’d like and will eventually decide to keep playing. For now, Richie Incognito’s career is over.
