Nebraska football: In-state target enjoys visit to Iowa
One of Nebraska football’s top targets is an Omaha linebacker that appears to have eyes for Iowa. A tough hill to climb just got tougher.
Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost made it clear when he arrived in Lincoln that he wanted to keep in-state kids, in the state when it came to recruiting.
That aim is being put to the test in Frost’s very first year. The Cornhuskers have been hard after linebacker Nick Henrich since the new coaching staff arrived. The problem is that there have been a ton of other schools who have also been after the Omaha Burke linebacker.
Considering he’s one of the, if not the best player in the state of Nebraska, it makes some sense there would be a recruiting war surrounding him. Frost’s stated interest in keeping exactly this kind of player has likely helped spark that recruiting war.
While Henrich has said he’s certainly interested in the Cornhuskers, it appears there might be a team he’s a bit higher on. On Wednesday, the linebacker made yet another unofficial visit to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

It didn’t take long for photos of Henrich in Hawkeye Black and Gold to start circulating the web. It appears there is a legitimate reason to fret over the player’s interest in the neighboring state.
As HawkeyeNation points out, Henrich grew up as an Iowa fan. When you consider the state of Husker football the last 20 years, compared to the state of Iowa football over the same period, it’s not as ridiculous as it sounds.
You also have to remember that Omaha is literally right next to Iowa. You can be in Nebraska on one block, and in Iowa after you cross the street.
This isn’t like a Husker kid growing up a South Carolina Gamecocks fan. There’s a cultural and geographically touchstone for the Burke player.
So should Cornhusker fans be getting nervous? Maybe but panic shouldn’t set in just yet.

Henrich still has a visit with the Nebraska football team set up. He’s also going to be committing sometime this summer, so wondering and worrying shouldn’t take too much longer.
