The Nebraska football love affair with one JUCO defensive back cooled. He’s now a Tennesee Volunteer.

The saga of Nebraska football and Kenneth George Jr. is likely a pretty interesting one. Unfortunately, the whole story is likely not going to be known to anyone outside of those two parties.

During a period of time when the Cornhuskers’ new staff was offering JUCO prospects left and right, they offered George and it appeared to be a match made in heaven. HuskerCorner actually talked to George shortly after that offer and all signs seemed to point to him officially becoming a Husker by signing day.

Then … something happened. It’s entirely possible nothing other than the Cornhuskers having to play the numbers game happened.

Whatever it was, George never officially committed to the Huskers and he definitely didn’t sign with Scott Frost and company when they hauled in the rest of their class.

More from Nebraska Football

On Saturday night, the Trinity Valley Community College player announced on his official Twitter page that he is planning on being a Tennessee Volunteer. Such is the way of things in the world of College Football.

This doesn’t appear to be a “loss” in the traditional sense of the word for Scott Frost and company. By most accounts, their 2018 class was pretty full.

There has also been a distinct drop in the number of Junior College players the Cornhuskers are looking to take moving forward. Still, George was one of those talents it would have been nice to see on campus, especially with the work there is to be done in the defensive backfield.

It is also interesting to see George commit to a school that arose as a direct competitor for so many players in the 2018 class. That hasn’t really been the case for the 2019 class.

At this point, it’s time for Nebraska football fans to wish Kenneth George Jr. well, and wonder what might have been if things had worked out differently for both sides.
