The Nebraska football team has sent out an offer to one of the top tight ends in the state of California. The question now is will he stay a tight end?

Some have been wondering just how the Nebraska football team is going to be using tight ends in the new offense. It doesn’t appear the team believes they can’t use the athletes that play that position, if they are the right fit.

That was evidenced on Wednesday when the Cornhuskers offered Mater Dei tight end, Michael Martinez. Considering Martinez stands at 6-6 and weighs in at 246 pounds, it seems as if Martinez might fit into the Huskers’ plans even if it’s not at tight end.

It’s his height that might be the most attractive to Scott Frost and company. While the staff is always looking for speed, speed and more speed, they also appear to like height.

Martinez, who is a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports, has the measurables where he could be moved to defensive end pretty easily. He could also be a heck of a weapon on offense when you’re talking about throwing a ball up and into the end zone.

The timing of the offer from the Huskers comes at an interesting time. While Martinez doesn’t have a ton of offers, he has been offered by some of the bigger programs in FBS.

Those offers include UCLA, Oregon and Oregon State. As 247Sports points out, the tight end just recently named UCLA as the leader.

That means Nebraska certainly has it’s work cut out for it. That doesn’t mean, however that the Cornhuskers are out of it by any stretch.

The Nebraska football team has a habit of getting targets to like them once the coaching staff is able to talk to those targets.

Frost and company might be able to change Michael Martinez’s mind on who he is favoring now that they’re in the mix.
