The Nebraska football team is going head to head with a conference rival for Sheridan Jones.

Considering all the talk from the new Nebraska football staff that they were focusing on fit more than stars, there was some concern the group wouldn’t be going after the best of the best such as Sheridan Jones.

It turns out those concerns were entirely misplaced. The staff has already proved that time and time again in 2018.

They proved it again by indeed offering Jones, who is the fourth best player in the entire state of Virginia. He’s also the best defensive back in the state and the 16th ranked corner in the entire 2019 class.

Rated as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports, the Nebraska football team has some big-time competition for his attention. The Maury High player has offers from the best teams in the country and 247 believes he’s a heavy Ohio State lean.

Even if the recruiting site is wrong, the Cornhuskers are going to have to beat off Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson in order to win the favor of this talented player. There’s also the threat of Penn State, Maryland and Oklahoma to worry about.

The Huskers staff has had no fear of going head-to-head with the big boys of the college football world. Despite that lack of fear, the team is one down when it comes to taking on conference rivals in recruiting wars.

One of the Cornhuskers’ top targets recently committed to Illinois. The caveat in that situation being it’s still very early in the recruiting cycle.

The Nebraska football team is also still looking for diamonds in the rough in and around the “100-mile radius” that has become so important in the college football world. The Huskers just hosted an Iowa prospect at defensive end that would be a big get in more ways than one.
