The Nebraska football team made the cut for the top linebacker in the 2019 class. Now they need to beat out 14 other teams.

The Nebraska football team offered a scholarship to Nakobe Dean just a few weeks ago. Now the school is one of 15 that made the top linebacker’s first “cut.”

Dean announced his top 15 schools on his official Twitter account earlier this week and the Cornhuskers were right there in the thick of it. The challenge now, is staying in the thick of it when the talented defender makes his next round of cuts.

In addition to the Huskers, Dean included Florida State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Clemson, Florida, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Stanford, Duke and Auburn.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Dean is being pursued by such big name schools. According to 247Sports, he’s the top inside linebacker in the entire country. He’s the 24th best player in the class.

247Sports has Dean as a slight lean to Ole Miss at the present time, though it’s far from a lock. Unfortunately for Husker fans, the team that is the second most likely destination at the present time is Alabama.

The Cornhuskers are going to have their work cut out for them if they want to land this player. If they were able to do so, it would be a major coup the likes of which the program hasn’t seen … ever?

Yes, Tom Osborne and company had some very good recruits. You’d be hard-pressed to figure out the last time the top linebacker in an entire class picked the Huskers.

Two of the schools in on Dean make him that much more attractive of a prospect. Any player that can get the attention of both Duke and Stanford and still be good enough to be recruited by Alabama is a player Nebraska would be lucky to have.

For now, Nebraska football fans will have to be content with making his top 15. They can hope they make his next cut down whenever that may be.
