Former Nebraska football wide receiver Niles Paul has been hinting that his days with the Washington Redskins might be over.
Former Nebraska football wide receiver Niles Paul has managed to make himself a valuable asset for the Washington Redskins. First drafted in the fifth round, Paul has transitioned from wide receiver to tight end, to a kind of H-Back position.
While he didn’t do much in his rookie season, he started to show his worth in his second year. That year, he caught eight passes for 152 yards and a touchdown.
Two years later he had his best season, catching 39 passes for 507 yards and a touchdown. The last two years he’s had injury problems and production problems.
Now it appears that Paul believes the Washington Redskins are going to kick him loose. The former Cornhusker made it clear he’s not happy about how he’s being treated.

“Stayed down, played my role, & always put the team before myself,” Paul tweeted out on Wednesday as part of a message that would seem to suggest, at the very least, that the Redskins aren’t fully committed to re-signing him. “S— wild, but I don’t even know why I’m acting surprised.”

The reaction to that tweet from former teammates was swift. San Francisco 49ers receiver Pierre Garcon responded, “Let me check my palm pilot, we might have a spot for you in the Bay. We need a guy like you. Hightower the ST coach. You’ll be closer to Omaha, LA and Vegas CaliforniaLove”
Paul has been a very good special teams player for the Redskins, even when he hasn’t been catching a ton of passes. It’s a safe bet that his talent should allow him to catch on with a team at some point.
Paul has been one of the most successful former Nebraska football position players in the NFL when talking about longevity on one team and playing time. Now it appears he’s looking for a new home.
