Former Nebraska football commit Masry Mapieu has found himself a new home.

The saga of former Nebraska football commit Masry Mapieu has taken another turn. It appears this might be the final turn, at least for the near future.

Reports are circulating that the defensive tackle out of York has committed to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and will be officially signing with them later today. Louisiana, once known as Louisiana-Lafayette is one of the founding members of the Sun Belt conference.

As the conference has grown, the Cajuns have had problems building a winning program, but managing to land a talented defensive tackle that was once headed to a Power 5 program has to be a bit of a coup for the school.

Mapieu had been expected to sign with the Cornhuskers until rumors began to get out a day or two before national signing day. While it’s still not entirely clear what exactly happened, Mapieu was slated to enroll at Iowa Western C.C. instead.

Nate Clouse from Rivals reported that York head coach Glen Snodgrass informed him that the Cajuns started recruiting the defensive tackle once he signed with Iowa Western. Mapieu figures to be an imposing presence in the Sun Belt considering he already stands 6-4 and weighs in around 300 pounds.

The 3-star prospect was ranked as the second-best player in the state of Nebraska in the 2018 class by Rivals. He was also rated as the 33rd best defensive tackle in the entire class.

Adding to the idea that Mapieu is one heck of a get for the Cajuns is the fact that they had just 14 commits in the 2018 class and just three of those were 3-star prospects. Louisiana had the 10th ranked class (out of 11 schools) in the Sun Belt this year.

While the Nebraska football team would clearly have liked to add Masry Mapieu to its class, the staff is clearly happy with what they ended up with. It appears all parties involved can now happily go their separate ways.
