Nebraska football: Huskers target gets offer from B1G rival
The Nebraska football team has new competition for a talented defensive end target.
Now that we’re moving into the spring, the 2019 recruiting cycle is heating up for the Nebraska football team. While the team is busy fighting off suitors for in-state targets like Nick Henrich, they’re also fighting off old rivals for talented out of state targets like Stephon Wright.
It should come as no surprise to the Cornhuskers that they are seeing competition for Wright, a defensive end that’s among the best in the class. The newest competition comes in the form of Big Ten rival Illinois
The Tigers offered the four-star prospect on Thursday night, giving him a grand total of 18 offers. Despite a large number of offers, 247 Sports still has Wright as a pretty good lean towards USC, though another old Cornhuskers’ rival has made some headway.
Oklahoma is getting at least one crystal ball. The Trojans are still considered a 75 percent lean for the defender.

It’s not quite clear what the Huskers are going to need to do to make inroads, though Wright has shown he’s at least excited by the Nebraska offer. Those panicking about losing Wright this early in the process can probably rest easy.
When talking about as talented a prospect as this player is, we’re likely not going to see any kind of movement, commitment-wise until the fall at least.
That should give the Nebraska football team plenty of time to get their foot in the door for Stephon Wright. At the moment, it doesn’t appear the player will be here for the Spring Game, that’s a missed opportunity recruiting wise but not the only tool in the toolbox for Scott Frost and company.
