Because he signed during the December signing period, some Nebraska football fans might forget about Deontai Williams. They shouldn’t.

The safety out of Jones County Junior College is one of those Huskers that stands a pretty good shot at starting, or at least seeing the field often in 2018. The best news of all is that if he can get on the field soon, he’ll have three years to play three.

That’s the kind of JUCO player Scott Frost and company have got to love to see, because it means they aren’t going to just play a couple of seasons and then head on out. He’ll have the added benefit of being able to come to Nebraska earlier than some players he might be competing with and get used to the defense.

The Huskers’ secondary is going to need a revamp with losses like Josh Kalu and Chris Jones. Even if they were coming back, there was plenty the new staff was going to have to work on.

While at Jones County, Williams posted solid numbers out of the safety position. The defender logged 26 tackles (20 solo) while forcing two fumbles and intercepting two passes.

It’s the ability to get to the ball that might get Williams on the field faster as well. The defense is going to need to get better fast. The Nebraska football team is going to be looking towards any defenders that have played college ball, even Junior College ball.
