Nebraska football in-state target Nick Henrichs got yet another Power 5 offer in the form of Notre Dame on Friday afternoon.

There was a time when the Nebraska football team never really had to worry about losing its best in-state athletes. To some degree, this was because there were few other schools interested in those athletes.

Times are a-changin’ when it comes to a group of Omaha players that includes 2019 target, Nick Henrichs. The Omaha Burke player gained yet another Power 5 conference team offer earlier this week when Notre Dame came calling.

Henrich has been garnering a ton of attention in the last few months. It looks as though he might be the first big test for Scott Frost and company.

When Frost arrived, he said the Huskers needed to keep Nebraska kids in Nebraska. The attention Henrichs and others are getting from Notre Dame, Purdue and other big-time FBS programs is going to make that harder than some would have thought.

It certainly makes sense that others would be coming after the inside linebacker. The Omaha native went from being a run of the mill three-star prospect on 247Sports to being inside their top 247 players.

One of the reasons this is going to be a real test for the Huskers is also because the only crystal ball on the linebacker has him headed to Minnesota. This is exactly the kind of loss Frost cannot afford, especially early in his coaching tenure.

The good news is that the Nebraska football staff has time to make up any ground that’s been lost. As a 2019 target, he won’t be signing until roughly a year from now.

The bad news is that the more attention that is paid to Henrich from outside the state, the harder it’s going to be to get him to stick. One will hope turning around the Husker program will be a big draw for Nick Henrich.
