The Nebraska football team has seen a number of targets in Omaha get offered by a conference rival.

Since Scott Frost arrived, the Nebraska football team has had a renenewed focus on in-state targets. Turns out that renewed focus seems to have gotten the attention of other Big Ten schools.

While the Huskers take aim at kids all over the country, it appears that Purdue believes Nebraska kids are fair game. Over the weekend, the Boilermakers made offers to several Omaha players.

The number of offers are certainly interesting. The fact that Purdue is offering Omaha kids at all is something that appears to be entirely new.

Sean Callahan tweeted out that the Rivals database does not have records of Purdue ever offering a Nebraska target. That database goes back 15 years.

Among the prospects who were offered by Purdue were Nick Henrich, Xavier Watts and Zavier Betts. It appears there are two messages one can take away from these offers.

The first is that it appears there are some pretty good prospects coming up through the ranks in Omaha. The other message is that it appears that Jeff Brohm is willing to go mining for talent in places Purdue would never dare before.

More from Nebraska Football

It’s unclear whether that’s more about Purdue wanting to find a way to be resurgent, or because they see Nebraska as weak. No matter what the answer to that last question is, it should be a wakeup call to the Huskers.

Perhaps the snagging of Bryson Williams this recruiting cycle was the first shot. Wisconsin stole the player right under the noses of the Cornhuskers. The Badgers are going after another in-state target in Chris Hickman.

It’s clear that the era when the Nebraska football team could sit back and gobble up the FBS talent in the state is over. Now we get to see how the Huskers respond.
