Nebraska football target cuts list to three, announces commit date

Nebraska football target Matthew Tago has announced his list of final potential schools and when he will be committing and ending his recruitment.

The Nebraska football team’s 2018 recruiting class could be getting a lot better before the smoke clears on signing day. Matthew Tago is one target the Huskers are hoping to reel in before then.

The quarterback out of California translates to a three-star athlete according to Rivals and the 69th best player in the state. This recruitment has been especially interesting because the Cornhuskers are going up against Oregon State and the Huskers’ former head coach.

Tago announced on Twitter Monday morning that he had made his final cut down list. Alongside Nebraska is indeed Oregon State and Utah. Tago just finished up a visit to Lincoln.

If there is a surprise team on the final three, it is Utah, who has gotten quite a few less mentions from Tago in the past few weeks. That should mean the real battle is going to be between the Beavers and the Huskers.

In addition to announcing the three teams still in the running, Tago also said when he would be committing. Like Cam Jones did this past weekend, Tago will be letting everyone know his commitment on Saturday at 5:00 PM local time.

For Nebraskans, that means we’ll find out if there’s another addition to the 2018 Cornhusker recruiting class at 7:00 PM on February 3.

Tago’s announcement makes it the second time in two days that the Huskers have found out they are among the favorites to land a recruit. Sunday night, much ballyhooed defensive back Taiyon Palmer announced the Cornhuskers were in his final three. Unlike Tago, Palmer won’t be making a commitment announcement until signing day.

One thing that isn’t clear is whether the Nebraska football team plans to let Tago stay at the quarterback position, or whether the coaching staff is eying a position change. If they have made that clear to Matthew Tago, it could play into his announcement.
